Pilates is a type  of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility, muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance. Interestingly, Pilates is named after it’s creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the exercises back  in the 1920s.

Improving the strength of your core
Pilates exercises help develop a strong “core” – the center of the body. The core consists of abdominal muscles along with the muscles closest to the spine. Control of the core is achieved by integrating the trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle in various Pilates exercises.

Since  Pilates helps to increase your core strength, it improves your posture at the same time. The various exercises, poses, stretches, and breathing techniques which Pilates incorporates can also help to improve flexibility of your back.
